Illi Ferandez is an illustrator based in Chicago, Illinois. Her exposure to art started early by studying the works of post-impressionist masters such as Henri Matisse and Paul Gauguin. Her focus on color harmony is a crucial element in her work and is considered a signature style in her ongoing pieces. She attended the Chicago Academy of Art where she was formally trained in anatomy and classical figure drawing.
Realizing that conventional art was lacking women of color as the main subject, Illi’s works of art seek to exhibit the beauty of the Filipina figure as well as the diverse plant life of the Philippines. Layered with bright colors set against a dream-like tropical landscape, her paintings spark feelings of nostalgia for her island homeland.
