Sinag’s Big Exhibit at Evanston Art Center

Sinag: ray of light Art Exhibit at the Evanston Art Center is opening on April 26, 2024. The show will feature 48 filipino-american artists from Chicago and Greater Chicago with close to a hundred paintings on display. It is the biggest gathering of fil-am artists based in Chicago and Greater Chicago.

Sinag – Ray Of Light art exhibit celebrates Filipino heritage and honors Filipino health care workers, especially against the backdrop of the pandemic and rise in Asian Hate Crimes. The exhibit participants are an exciting mix of established and emerging Filipino-American visual artists showcasing traditional and modern art styles, using various media from acrylic on canvas, digital, sculptures, installations and interactive art. Sinag is also a fast growing 3 year old filipino-american art collective in Chicago with 60 plus members.

The opening reception will start with an Ifugao Offering Ceremony by Levi Aliposa, followed by the Asian American band, Sona Umbra, performance art by Michael Oliveros, musical performance by Joe Agarri and Alex Yu, and a poetry reading of Lani T Montreal’s poem, “Go Back Where You Came From” by Cesar Conde. One of the many highlights of the show is the three-generations of internationally-acclaimed portraitist, Bueno Silva’s family exhibiting together under one roof.

The show will run until May 25, 2024.
