Jonathan Taala (b. 1994) is a fine art photographer and educator based in Chicago, IL. Currently he has been focusing on making work about his parents, which explore themes of cultural nuances, aging, and uncertainty through the use of archival imagery, original photographs, and text. He also specializes in a rare and labor intensive color photographic printing process from the 19th century known as color carbon printing. Taala teaches photography classes at Marwen, a non-profit that provides free visual arts classes, as well as college and career programming for Chicago’s youth. He also freelances part time.
Taala earned his BA in Cinema Art and Science with a minor in Photography from Columbia College Chicago. As an emerging artist, Taala has had the opportunity to exhibit his work at The Observatory DIY Gallery, Hokin Gallery, and Throop Studio in Chicago, as well as El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe in New Mexico. His most recent work has been published in Carbon Transfer Printing: A Step-by-Step Manual.
