Susan Alforque Silvano

Susan Alforque Silvano, Watercolor Artist

“Since I was young, my creative side was not given priority. After a Watercolor class in 2008, I realized that the medium suited my personality and I have been painting in Water- color since. As a former accounting professional, I was used to deadlines and detail work, thus, I aim to finish a painting before a certain hour or date.

As a native of the Philippines, I love to paint in vibrant and earthy colors, textures and patterns. My watercolor paintings reflect the diary of my life, because before I paint, I already know in my mind’s eye how the art work would look like. I just interpret what I see, my eyes are the lens of my camera and my hands develop my art.

I share my creative talents as: an Art class mentor to senior citizens; Coordinator of Parol Making workshops at St. Gregory Hall, Chicago; Chair of the Homemade Parol Con- test with 17 parol entries at Paskuhan 2019 at St. Hilary Gym and as an Art Calendar Supplier of my watercolor paintings to my art patrons and friends in series entitled “Make Time to Create Happy Memories”.

The artists who inspired me are: Gustav Klimt, my art teacher Patricia Otto and my art classmates and my fellow CPA artist Beth Peralta. My watercolor class maintains a weekly blog:”saturday.showtime@blogspot.com” for the past 10 years. I appreciate my Sigma Delta Gamma Accounting Sorority who were supportive and patient while I sketched during our reunion tours across the continents. I am grateful to my parents: Juan and Claudia and sisters: Remy and Coring for unqualified support of my creative energies. I dedicate my art to my husband Tony, my domestic art critic and number one financier.

I thank the Chicago Public Library, sponsor of the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month of May celebration of Diversity for my art exhibits at the ff. venues: H.Washington Library in 2016, Dunning Library in 2017, Walker Library in 2018, M.L.King Library in 2019. My other exhibits were shown at the Philippine Consulate Chicago, Skokie Library, Navy Pier, Chicago Cultural Center, Daley Center, Truman College, University of Chicago, Blick Art Store, Gallery 1837, Leslie Wolfe Gallery, Trickster Gallery, Thompson Center, Lincolnwood Town Hall, St. Gregory Church, Ten Cat Tavern.”
